The Promises of the RosaryDevotion to the Prayer Brings Special Graces, Protections, Miracles
The Rosary is a very powerful prayer according to the Roman Catholic Church. Through faith and devotion it reportedly offers special graces, protections and miracles.
The Rosary is a set of prayers based upon four sets of biblical mysteries: the Glorious Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, the Joyful Mysteries, and the Luminous Mysteries. It is one of the most cherished prayers of the Catholic Church and contains the following prayers: the Creed, the Our Father, Hail Marys and the Doxology ("Glory Be"), and concludes with the Salve Regina. The prayers of the rosary are based in great part upon the scriptures, and the teachings and events of the life of Christ. The Origins of the RosaryThe Rosary has evolved from the earliest times, but tradition holds that the original rosary was given by Mary, the Blessed Mother of Jesus, when, reportedly, she herself appeared to Saint Dominic in the twelfth century. At that time, tradition says she presented him with the rosary and promised Dominic that if he spread devotion to the rosary, his religious order would flourish. The most Holy Rosary is also known as the prayer of miracles. Many have testified to the power, favors granted, and miracles received through devotion through this prayer. 15 Promises of the RosaryIn the 15th Century, the fifteen promises were given by the Blessed Mother to the Dominican Priest, the Blessed Alanus de la Roche. He was promised that anyone who devoted themselves faithfully and would pray the rosary would receive special graces. The Blessed Mother said that the Rosary would hold great protections and graces for this life and the next. She said that what one asks through the Rosary would be obtained, and that for those who propagate her Rosary she promised aid in all their necessities.
Today’s Promises of the RosaryThe promises of rosary devotion have continued throughout the years. In Fatima, the Blessed Mother reportedly appeared to three young children and promised that world peace could be obtained through the prayers of the rosary. In Medjugorje, the Blessed Mother again appeared to a group of six children, and again stated that through the rosary wars could be averted and the course of nature altered. Others have reported miracles through devotion to the rosary. In 1942, Father Patrick Peyton, CSC, became internationally known as "The Rosary Priest" and through his international rosary crusades he helped many families and coined the phrase "The Family That Prays Together Stays Together.” Pope John Paul II declared that 2003 would be the year of the rosary, and today there are thousands of rosary prayer groups across the world praying for the world’s needs. Mary, the Blessed Mother of Jesus, once said that devotion to Her Rosary is a special sign of predestination, and for many devotion through the Holy Rosary is a sign of unwavering faith and a path to world peace.
